Fantasy Football Week 2 Pickups [2011]

Since it’s difficult to know who is available in what league, this season I’m breaking down this article by percentage available:  25%-49%, 50%-74%+, 75%-90%+, 90%+.  Who you decide to pickup depends on your need(s) and risk aversion.  Early season pickups can be crucial to Fantasy Football success, as those of you who got your hands on Vick, Hillis, Lloyd, etc., after Week 1 last year know.  A star denotes a good matchup this week, at first glance.

25%+

  • Kyle Orton*
  • Darren Sproles
  • Robert Meachem
  • Aaron Hernandez
  • Lions*
Hernandez picked up where he left on in the preseason with 7 catches 100 yards & TD. Sproles was explosive and left many saying Reggie Who?  Meachem should be the immediate fill-in for Colston.  Orton is a solid QB2 and has a solid matchup with Cincy.  Really like the Lions D over the next two weeks and could be a solid compliment for 2 D/ST owners.

50%+

  • Ryan Fitzpatrick
  • Cam Newton
  • Ben Tate
  • Lance Kendricks
  • Giants*
Cam. Cam. Cam.  He’s more than a rushing threat with that big arm.  Had one of the best matchups last week, which won’t be the case most weeks, but you won’t find anyone like him anywhere.  Fitz confirmed his sleeper status, as he can be a QB2 with upside as he shows great command of the offense.  Ben Tate racked up big stats in the second half with Foster and Ward hurt.  With his skill and OL lots to like with more potential big games.  Burleson made the most out of his targets and can be a solid backup.  Kendricks was painful and disappointing, but got open a lot and should get more looks with Amendola out.  Giants D will improve as the season goes on and get a hurting StL @ home on Monday night.

75%+

  • Delone Carter
  • Nate Burleson
  • Jacoby Jones
  • Jermaine Gresham
  • Cowboys*
Carter should become more involved in the offense.  Jones will see more PT with Walter out and maybe he does something with it, finally.  Gresham looked like the go-to guy.

90%+

  • Rex Grossman*
  • Cadilliac Williams*
  • David Nelson
  • Ed Dickson
  • Texans*
Grossman was tough on Sunday, completing throws before getting hit.  Should have a huge game this week vs. AZ at home.  Cadilliac looked strong against the Eagles and I’m guessing Jackson misses more than one game.  Nelson got as many targets as Stevie and should keep seeing the ball out of the slot while defenses try to stop Stevie.  Dickson made a great TD coach going past Troy Polamalu and stepped up as a weapon for Flacco.
