2011 NFL Preseason: Quick Slants – Cardinals Raiders
Raiders Pass Rush: One of the team’s primary strengths from last year showed promise in limited action. The group worked out during the off-season at the direction of leader Richard Seymour. The corners are fast but losing Nnamdi will hurt, the pass rush could hide some of those issues.
Denarius Moore: Preseason star and NFL Draft sleeper. So fluid, already looking comfortable with the offense and speed of the game. Big fan and a chance to carve into the targets with Ford out. Ford came on strong last year but I think expectations were a bit high. Schilez is injured again. Heyward-Bey coming into an important 3rd season. It was unrealistic for anyone to expect him to produce right away but he was taken small steps forward. Murphy, who had been the number one, could be the odd man out when it comes to production.
Kevin Kolb: He looked decent for a guy who has been there for 5 days. What he did show is he will get to Larry Fitzgerald when singled early and out. The two worked out this off-season before the trade was made.
Todd Heap should also be considered for a big season, since Kolb feeds the TE and Heap came back to form at the end of last season. Say what you will about the money paid to him, but they needed a QB. Kolb needs talent around him to be successful, which brings me to my next point….
Beanie Wells underwhelms: He fell down on his first and only carry against the Raiders first team D. On the next drive he was stuffed at the goal-line by their 2nd team D. I’m not a fan of his game when he’s healthy and he’s a big injury risk. When Ryan Williams is healthy, he is clearly the best back and could be a top rookie. In limited time he had 4 carries for 31 yards and a catch for 20.
