NFL Preaseason Quick Stants: Buccaneers vs. Chiefs

Buccaneers vs. Chiefs

Biggest story for me was Dez Briscoe stepping up when given the opportunity.  Remember last year, tweeting over and over that he would be a player.  More importantly, the Bucs showed cohesion.   Their leader Freeman looked good and confidence is high.  Haley usually mails it in during the pre and I can’t blame him last night with only 9-10 days to prepare, he will gradually bring back all his starters.

Tampa Bay

  • Tampa Bay surprised many last year since they were a very young team.  While it will be difficult for them to reproduce the season they had last year with a tougher schedule and not having the surprise factor, the team will continue to get better.
  • So happy that Dez Briscoe stood out. As you might remember, I’m a big fan and went rogue when he dropped so far in the draft and was later cut.  Specifically, he did well to come back to the ball on his first catch and convert a first down in traffic the next one.  Explosive player at Kansas, just check the highlights.  Benn expected back soon though.
  • Freeman has been so impressive with his patience in the pocket during the last two years and he showed it again on his TD run.
  • LaGarrette still doesn’t like going down and showed he still has that touch of speed. Came out on 2nd and goal, though, where he had some struggle last year.  Lumpkin, who is trying to claim the RB2 job, had a nice night
  • Mason Foster did a fine job in his first “start” replacing Ruud.  A tough nosed middle linebacker who I wrote about before the draft.
  • Josh Johnson, one of the better backups in the league (and fastest), worked his progressions well.  Chance to start next year with free agency on the horizon.
  • DNP: Winslow, Benn, and Price
Kansas City
  • Haley doesn’t try to win in the preseason, coming in 0-7-1 ATS before Friday’s game.
  • McCluster gets first carry, if JC were to go down for any reason, you would have a WR who is getting carries and catches.  Wanted to see him in the slot, but nah.
  • Thomas Jones looking better, couple of nice cutback runs.  Could end up being a steal if he is motivated.
  • Baldwin apparently has struggled getting off press coverage in camp and only grabbed one reception.
  • DNP: Dorsey, Hali, Johnson, Gregg, and more…
