2011 Fantasy Football Sleeper: Delone Carter

It’s never too early to prepare for football season.  The NFL Draft can tell you a lot about a team’s needs and objectives for the next season.  The Colts needed to bolster their run game and succeeded by drafting an under-the-radar bruiser in Delone Carter as well as two OL. I think he could have a big rookie season in 2011-12, eventually taking over as the starter and flourishing  during the Fantasy Football Playoffs.

The Indianapolis Colts greatly improved their run game and offensive line in the Draft. It was vital for the Colts to improve in these areas because they have been among the worst in the league in rushing and their play-action passing has suffered as a result.  Anthony Castonzo was great value at the end of the first round and should be the LT.  Benjamin Ijalana fell to them in the second round, he is capable at tackle and guard (where he will probably play).

Carter had an accomplished career at Syracuse,  rushing for 1000 yards seasons in back-to-back seasons. What makes that feat more impressive is that the program has struggled over the years (although improved and coached up in 2010), and he maintined a 5.3 ypc in 2010.

My pre-draft analysis: “Great size (5’10-215) and burst, power runner. Took his game to the next level at the end of the season.  Great showing in the Pinstripe Bowl and performed well in the East-West Shrine Game. Not great in space, but gets the job done by finishing runs and falling forward, tough.”

Outlook: Addai is a free agent and Carter was drafted because he fits what the Colts need in a RB. An early down bruiser who will also convert on short yardage.  Brown has shown he is not durable and even when healthy he is unable to shoulder the load.  Even if Addai stay, I think it’s only a matter of time until Carter becomes the featured back for one of the best offenses in the NFL.

It’s rare to discover a professional in whom you may have some trust. In the world today, nobody absolutely cares about showing others the way out in this subject matter. How lucky I am to have actually found a wonderful site as this. It really is people like you exactly who make a true difference in this world through the thoughts they share.

Great stuff. You’re in my Favorites List now. So, how sooon do you think Carter could start, especially if Addai remains a free agent? I’d consider picking him and Leshoure up (Best does his best to get injured) in the Late Late Rounds..
