Superdome, New Orleans, LA

The Saints are still riding on a Super Bowl high but also still have many of the same players from that run.  Unlike most champions, restricted free agency in an uncapped year has allowed them to retain their players.  I think the Saints will pick up from where they left off last season.  Being at home and with Minnesota suffering various injuries in the secondary, I’m sure the Saints will be able to light up the scoreboard.  Meanwhile, I don’t think the Vikings will be able to keep up.  Sure, the Vikings held the Saints to 96 yards after halftime and many have said they gave the game away to New Orleans.  Nevertheless, this is a different game with different circumstances.  Sidney Rice will not be playing but neither is Darren Sharper.  Rice is a bigger blow because not only will be not be on the field but he changes their offense.  The Vikings are hoping Berrian will be finally worth the checks he cashes but I’m not as optimistic. Favre has not been in camp long and although last year he was coming back from an arm injury, it will take him some time to get in a rhythm with his team.  Super Bowl champions have won ten straight openers and tonight should be no different.

Spread: Saints -5.5

PICK: Saints 31  Vikings 20

I just don’t see how Favre can be sharp for this one with the limited number of reps he’s seen this pre season. I know he has tons of experience but it takes a little while to get in sync with your receivers at game speed. Guess I’m one of the ones that Favre will have to prove wrong because I just don’t think he can turn it on and off like a switch. He’s 17-27 this pre season with 2 INT’s. That along with home field on opening night has me backing probably the best QB in the league right now with Brees.

While I like the Saints tonight, a wager would be anything but automatic and I think there will be better games this weekend if you’re looking for action.  Typically, I only like to take dogs that I have a feeling will have a chance to win.

Welcome back football…Good Luck!
